1928 farmhouse (foursquare, craftsman, mash-up?)

Post by Rwestad »

Hello! My name is Becky. Greetings from the frozen north ;-) My husband and I recently purchased his parents home of 25 years. I've loved it ever since the first time I laid eyes on it and convinced him to take the plunge when they decided to downsize. He has some angst to work out on the house after years of frustration over "deferred maintenance" while his parents were owners and even before. The house is in need of lots of love and attention but I just know she can shine again. The home is super solid and rife with potential. I'm hoping for some feedback on what style this home is and even on proper orientation. I think it might be craftsman, with enclosed porches. It was built in 1928 in rural MN. Here are some pictures.

I'm a picture person too! I have a LOT, so this will be a multiple part post.

Ahhhh, I cannot figure out how to get the pictures to be verticle. They are on my computer, but not when they post.

Edited to say: Thank you Mick_VT for the advice on rotating the picture, saving and rotating back. It is tedious, but it works and I hate to make people try to look at the pictures at an awkward angle. Thanks again for the feedback!

Kitchen Cabinets, my dad took one look and said, "well they definitely weren't afraid of using a LOT of wood in this house." Kitchen window is not original and I suspect the original may have been larger. I also think it probably had one of those huge 20's drainboard sinks with a curtain that was later replaced to what it is now.

Top of stairs facing back towards stairs. Built ins. Thone drawers are huge and you have to take them out to access the plumbing in the bathroom. The window isn't original. One of the daughters of the builder told my mother in law that it was a doorway to a sleeping porch that used to sit there.
