Re: Disassembling a stub tenon door?
Hey Mick, thanks for the references. I see how that foxtail would work, spreading itself as it is driven into the shallow mortise. That's machiavellian, right there! I am actually realizing that the door appears to have a veneer on each side about an eighth of an inch thick in oak. My concern now is...

Re: Jacob Beaty House (1874 Folk Victorian)
Thanks so much for the tutorial, Lily! Very helpful. So here we are. Still to come is the gas fireplace insert which will take some time as the one I want isn't cheap. I just stuck some sheetrock behind the mantle for now. https://www.thehistoricdistrict.org/gallery/image/783/source https://www.theh...

Disassembling a stub tenon door?
I am about to start working on my replacement front doors...they need to be cut down in height but to do it so the proportions look right I will be having to disassemble it. From what I can see inside the drill-outs for the old mortise lock and top and bottom slide bolt locks, it is done with stub t...

Re: Jacob Beaty House (1874 Folk Victorian)
Thanks for letting me know about the new galleries! I'm still not sure how (and far too tired) to link pictures in this text from my gallery, but suffice to say...it's there. So please, view my gallery! (and someone kind enough to teach me...is there a way to use gallery images here on my thread?) I...

Re: Jacob Beaty House (1874 Folk Victorian)
Wouldn't you know it, just as I finish the parlour it turns out Photobucket has decided to charge for 3rd party photo hosting and so all my photos are pulled for ransom. Anyone use any decent free hosting sites so I can get my pics back up, (or maybe I should just pay up...)

Hey, great to see that bathroom come together! Looks really great. Your DR also looks to be well on it's way, and so nice that you actually got to do some outside work too. I hope all is well and that you are feeling good.

Re: Our First House!
Aw, man....I'm so sorry to hear of the bum health news. My SIL just finished her chemo for breast cancer...really sucks but you'll get through it. And don't worry about the house. Your wife is right, it will be around for a long time. Far more important is that you are as well to enjoy it. Good wish...

Re: Jacob Beaty House (1874 Folk Victorian)
Hello all, I'm still here! And no, the parlour isn't done yet... Basically, I just massively underestimated the sheer amount of time my cabinetry and trim was going to take. I am saving pics for now so I have a better big reveal, but I made my life more difficult than I had to by building corner cab...

Re: Just Bought a Philly Rowhouse
I absolutely adore your row house. What a treat to see an old brick row mostly intact! I think your staircase is fantastic and the whole place just shouts out possibilities. Best of luck with your future work! I love Philly and visit when I can, not being that far from me. It's a great city. Cheers!...
