common whitetail dragonfly
From the guide I scanned, I can't tell if this is an immature male or a female. Neither has the prominent white tail that the mature male has.
The mottling of the darker bits varies from the photos I've seen. This one looked like it's wings has been chewed or torn, but closer examination shows they are fine.
This was the only half way decent dragon or damsel pic I took today, and I'm giving up on this camera.
