It's certainly a handsome room. I'd like to hear "My Snowy-breasted Pearl" on that Victrola. Staying tuned for winter developments.

I had no idea there was originally a front porch! Let's see those pictures!

I had a pro do the basic structure, I will be building most of the fancy stuff myself over time. Paint will have to waite, all but the roof is treated so will need to dry out before paint. Also waiting on the roof, had to go with a standing seam steel roof because I can no longer get the fancy shingles we have on the house😔

That must change the feeling inside the entrance and front room. It looks so correct. Do you have old photos for reference, or was there a porch present you acquired Gothichome?

James, there was once a porch on the front of the home but it had been removed, from conversations with the family of the second owners this would have been in the early nineteen hundreds. It was replaced with the cement one you see in previous posts. I never did find a picture of the home with the porch unfortunately. Having looked at many porches over years I kind of knew what was probably there. It would have been some thing similar but with a flat roof, thus the reason for removal, with out proper maintenance they tended to fail early. The only unknown is the gingerbread detail, full on heavy gothic with the heavy fancy curved bracing or the lighter looking and frilly spandrel and bracket of the same period. Upper management likes the spandels so that’s what going up.
It does change the amount of light entering the dinning room and the hallway, not a big deal for the dinning room but being a center hall home it makes the hallway a bit darker.
