Beautiful. One is better than none. You're motivating me.

Well another one and a half windows done. Upper management suggested painting the kind of ugly aluminum triple track storms, to maybe camouflage them a bit. What do you all think?

I’m a bit wish washy on the resaults. It does look a lot cleaner but from a distance it looks like I have square windows.

Last weekend I finally got my last sashes installed.

That’s three this summer, I’m debating whether I should try for a fourth, comming up to the middle of Sept. though.

They look really good Ron. I see what you mean about the storms. You lose the subtle arch at the top but you don't lose heat.

For those who are interested, I started the first of this winters inside work, started to strip the paint off of the stairs.

The staining pattern follows staining pattern as in the hall.

Almost finished with the initial paint stripping. Have a bit of ladder work to strip the paint off of the top four treads.

What your seeing is 140 years of people going up and down the stairs. Next up is secondary stripping and picking at the paint in the dents, then hours of sanding and stain prep.

An update, have the first round of sanding finished and am now working on the dents and divots and filling in what needs to be filled and scraping paint from the nooks and crannies.

Looking forward to seeing your progress on this project, as I too am in the process (back burnered) of stripping and restoring stairs, too. Will you have a runner? Rods?

James, I am not planning on a runner. There are no signs of there ever being a runner.

Another update on my stair restoration project. I started the staining yesterday, with drying time I hope to have it finished next weekend. No update pictures but for those who are interested here is how my balusters are secured to the treads.
Image
The tops are mortised into the rail. Each of these balustrades would have been dovetailed by hand.
