"the hardest thing about putting down the “stuff” isn’t actually the putting down of the “stuff”…rather…it’s the staining of the stuff"

I've learned this along the line this summer too. The building of something for outdoors is not the toughest part, or the most time consuming. The staining, or painting, or sealing... or whatever you decide, THAT is the time consuming part!

This is what I started the summer with in my back yard.

creating pieces like this.... seemed like a long, arduous job... staining everything is much more time consuming.

Great post! And that post led me to read two others.. but I searched and never found a resolution to what was in the safe you found in your nook or cranny? Did I miss it?

Nice work though! Your house is going to thank you.

Oooo...good question. I never did post the resolution to that. I probably should write one...

The short of it is:

Asked the former owner of the building: "Has the booby trap been deactivated?"
"Of course!"
"How do you know?"
"(next previous owner) said so!"
So...I asked (next previous owner), ""Has the booby trap been deactivated?"
"Of course!"
"How do you know?"
"(next next previous owner) said so!"

Since I'm only the 4th owner of the Civil War era building, the (next next previous owner) was no longer available to ask.

So, I ask around town...those in authority, "Don't worry. That's an urban myth."

Uh huh.

So anyway, got it opened, found said "urban myth" booby trap intact, and deactivated it. In short, it's two glass cylinders of teargas with a metal plug designed to break them if the safe was tipped or moved or somebody tried to punch the lock.

I'll have to get some pics and write that up...

Hmm, that's an impressive Urban Myth---anything else inside?

Negatory.

Wasn't hard to get open. Pretty much everybody that's ever worked there had the combination! :)
