Re: Addition
I wouldn't call that front porch "hideous." It is probably an unused entrance facing the road. Once you get to know the Shazapples, you probably are invited to come in through the back door, like family.

Not going to rip it off, but close. I actually have a thread about it HERE. The roof is a stupid pitch, something like 2/12, and the rafters are undersized so the ceiling cracks all the time. I'll tear off the existing roof and put some 4/12 trusses up, possibly with a sloped ceiling same as the addition porch.
The windows are coming out and we are putting in windows that will be shorter and wider to match the 'enclosed porch' on the addition.
The siding is coming off (vinyl) and new insulation/siding is going on to match what we've done so far. Then we are going to backfill a install stairs that come down to the left and right of the door instead of straight out. Kansass.1911 is right though, that front door is pretty much for aesthetic purposes only. Our "main door" is now in the addition porch.
You'll barely recognize the front of the house when we are done with it

Re: Addition
Drywall is finished, and the crackfiller is starting today.
Entry porch
Master Bath. The back of the room will be a shower, then a toilet and pedestal sink. There will be a pass through cabinet on the right side (for laundry).
Upstairs (our crackfiller hates us)

Re: Addition
Is a crackfiller what we'd call a drywall finisher? I've never heard that term before!
Re: Addition
Yep, crackfiller = drywall finisher. I've also heard them called mudders.
Porch is finished and primed!
We painted the laundry room so we could use our laundry machines. It's hard to tell from the picture but the wall on the right is a bit darker colour.
I am really happy with how the upstairs turned out. The crack filler said it inspired his "artistic side"

WOW!!!! Love the blue siding!!! I know it wasn't historically right, but with our house in the Annapolis area, we changed from the white that every house on the road was, to oxblood with white trim. We haven't been out there in a long long time, I hope it held up. Great job, you must be thrilled with the result.---Mal

Re: Addition
We are back outside. The west side is complete except for the hatch and a couple finishing touches.
The staging is now setup on the east side of the house to start tearing off the old siding.
