What finish for side jambs?

Post by 2ndline »

I am restoring all the windows in the house and have the first set of sashes ready to go back in. I have removed "most" of the paint from the side jambs, I can't get it all. I have read somewhere not to paint them again as the sashes will tend to stick, but I need to get them a dark chocolate to match the sashes and frames. What is best?

waterbased paint (latex/acrylic) tends to stick even years after application in humid conditions...if you must attain your chocolate color on the jambs, i would suggest a stain with a clear finish/sealer or an oil based paint...

and......woohoo about your finished sash!!!! photos, please....

I started using Ben Moore Advance (water based alkyd) on some windows earlier this year with GREAT results. Very minimal sticking all summer.
