I painted some wainscot in our kitchen orange. it was MDF so needed to be painted. after much ado picking the color I stepped back and realized it is actually very close to the color of the fir floors, maybe that's why it worked. It seemed loud at first but it actually fit in quite well.
If there is a big contrast between the paint and the floor. after the paint starts to chip off which is inevitable it will show a lot more than if you picked a color closer to the wood.
