Re: You Might Be an Old Home Owner if...

1. You take pictures of old 'sad sack' houses to get renovation ideas and/or get a better understanding of the design of the missing trim on your own home. 2. On a bad day, you dream of demoing your house, and moving a historic 'for sale' house onto your lot. 3. You use home incurred injuries as bot...

Re: Hit the Jackpot in MN....need advice!

Warren, I passed on these...because of of the size and the potential for different wood. Then, my Mom fell very ill during the latter half of 2015. I'm back up and running again, and just put a deposit on a entire set of matching cabinets. Stay tuned..I'll start a new thread. Smelly's back :)

Re: Architectural Salvage Road Trip!

Re: Hit the Jackpot in MN....need advice!

Um, what exactly do you think we do here? Trade knitting patterns?!? I know...I just wonder if you all get sick of me doing the 'should I' dance....and you all are like, just decide already, would ya? But Warren, you bring up the 'point of inflection'. I'm thinking if I am going to mix styles, I sh...

Re: Hit the Jackpot in MN....need advice!

Hi Lovesickfest! The challenge is that I'm probably 2 months away from engaging the GC and Carpenter. But in four years of looking, I've only found 1 other set of matching kitchen cabinets like these (they were a set of 6 apartment sized built in Hoosiers....which I still regret not buying). They lo...

Hit the Jackpot in MN....need advice!

Well, my quick jaunt to salvage stores in Minneapolis for trim turned into a potentially very, very expensive day. Not only did I find the trim to be pretty much what I needed...but I found (finally!!!!) a set of built ins that could (potentially) be used as kitchen cabinets, and a matching 3/4 heig...

Re: Modern kitchen features

Really good stuff in this thread. Oaktree, do you have pictures of what you are trying to work with? That might help us visualize. I've seen a fair amount of posts on buying a blower and building a custom wood hood....not as expensive, I don't think. There are a few kitchens with vintage hoods on my...

Re: Cutting down antique trim

kelt65, Thanks for the link, but I can't put those doric/classical colums in my farmaglow...they are waaay too formal for a 5 room, 950sq foot farmaglow. Mick, I hear what you are saying about the mix of styles. However, my house is a mix of styles. I have rafter tails on the roof (Craftsman) and eg...
