Re: I have always wondered...
We only have one front entrance, although it has two doors, each with its own screen door. This is great for keeping out the cold as there is a small radiator in the entry between doors. We do however, have a back kitchen door, a outside door that enters the dining room from a breakfast porch, an ou...

after my honey installed a door to the kitchen porch, we all stood there doing the sesame street open/closed because it actually latched! ( after much wailing and gnashing of teeth)

Re: What I did at my house today...
Anybody else building screens? My better half started to build storm windows, then looked at the thermometer and put screening in instead! Storms will come later. Glad to be able to open more windows and get more air moving. The house sits just right to catch all the good breezes if the windows are ...

Re: Attic renovation
My attic stairs are "stacked" over a set of back kitchen stairs. They were servant stairs, so they did not need an open ceiling above them. One thing I almost have two many of is staircases. Six is a bit many.

Re: Radiator painting questions
FYI on painting with latex. My hvac guy stripped multiple layers of old latex off a radiator and the temp went up over 10 degrees. The metal paints tend to transfer heat better while the latex seems to insulate. If your paint is thick enough to blur the details, it might be time to bite the bullet a...

Re: weird things in attics
..... we discovered that the sonic squeakers we bought to chase the bats killed all the wasps. Also got rid of all but the occasional bat. I'd love to know the brand / model or any info about your sonic squeakers. We have wasps upon wasps - I'm willing to try almost anything before resorting to che...

Re: Attic renovation
We have so far gotten along fine with just fans. Most people do not use double hung windows properly, so that makes a big difference. They should be open at the top and bottom, not just the bottom. Also, if you figure out which direction your cross breezes go and catch those it really helps. We can ...

Re: Attic renovation
I love this . I dream of a day when we can finish our attic. We will probably put a ceiling across the rafters so we still have storage space above. How are you heating your new space? We have some radiators already plumbed in, but they would need to be moved. looking forward to more pics.

Re: What I did at my house today...
Sitting at breakfast when we heard a thunk from the chimney. As we were sure it was a squirrel, we built a hallway straight to the door with furniture before we removed the fireplace insert. Scared us half to death when our "squirrel" came flying out! The trials of not having a damper in t...

Don't loose any sleep about the floor adhesive. None of mine came up with a heat gun. The worst of it had to come up with a razor blade.
