Re: Setbacks...
Did you see the episode of the Simpsons, where Ned Flanders' house was destroyed in a storm ? Neighbours pitched in with a Habitat for Humanity type group to rebuild him a new one, which gave him a nervous breakdown because it was so terrible. The reason Ned didn't buy insurance was because he felt ...

Dear Phil.
I am so sorry to read of your dad's passing, then the unhappy family drama that will need lawyers.
Your dad taught you well, to be a helpful kind guy. This will live on.

Oh wow - the insurance company assessment that claims that repair was worth $ 110.00. I am shaking my head at that. Did they just mean getting flat glass cut to size or what ? That makes no sense in 2016 dollars otherwise.

Re: Old house lovers vs. the world
Toronto is its own kind of monster, where historic properties are concerned. Because property values are completely insane, most new owners are the people who won the bidding war. All this means is that they had the most money, not that they value a historic or intact property. Toronto has paid a lo...

Re: Hullo from the "there be dragons here" area of MA
Cat Soap Box: FIV is difficult to transmit. Intact cats who are mating, fighting and having kittens are the main routes of transmission. SNAP tests for FIV (quick blood tests, like early pregnancy tests) have a substantial rate of false positives. I have had a few FIV+ cats within my household as fo...

Re: Hullo from the "there be dragons here" area of MA
Well, this may or may not be the house for you BUT - speaking as a cat rescue volunteer - I suggest you go back with noisy food, cat treats, a bottle of water and a bowl, etc. and have a look for that cat. This may be the cat for you. Put up a few paper posters in the area with your phone # and a de...

The interior of the house looks really good, and it is remarkable that the woodwork was not painted. There are so many original details - even the bathroom sconces. It looks the wood floors upstairs are original, while there is some laminate on the main floor ? I love that the original kitchen cabin...

Re: Did you compromise when you bought your old home?
Hmmm, there are some house things that can't be changed. For example, a perfect house at a great price in a location that is just a little far for a reasonable commute is never going to be a bargain due to the time/expense the commute will eat up. With regards to compromise, you have to pick your ba...
