Re: What to seal wood windows with?

Stain vs. paint probably depends on the era. In Mass. we still have some first period (1600s), along with a fair number colonial (1700s), federal (1780-1820) and Greek Revival (1820-civil war) era houses. You don't typically see stained woodwork in homes pre-Civil war, its either painted or if the f...

Re: Strange window glazing...

I had thought they where 60s/70s- ish like the other first floor windows but they may be even later. These are aluminum track, and the sash have factory printing on the ends t...

So after a late start this year Im finally on to another rooms worth of window glazing. For a refresher Ive been working on the first floor the last couple years and these are mostly late single pane replacements with aluminum tracks... Anyway, the windows in this room are especially odd. First off,...

Oh no.. they stepped up their game.

I am now getting my email box hit with PM notices!!! from spammers on WG. Ugh!

I have to go back their and see if I can disable all notifications before I get flooded. I wish I could just remove the account.

Warning to all WG transplants.

Re: Sarco putty longevity?

Yeah, I certainly hope you can get a couple years out of it. I used less than half the new tub I bought last year and have been putting off starting on the next room this summer due to this insane heat and drought.

Re: Keeping weeds out of a brick walk

My wife makes a homemade weedkiller, its just a mix of vinegar and saltwater.

Its VERY effective, in fact it will kill stuff that round up won't. Just have to be careful to keep it away from the lawn and desirable plants.

Re: HAPPY BIRTHDAY TIME!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks. Yes this one surprised us as there was not outward sign of rot and the tree leafs out healthy every year. We did have a couple other obviously rotten trees that we had cut proactively, but it figures its the one you didn't expect that falls!! The end result should be nice - the roofers did a...
