Re: Sources for lime mortar?

I am currently using Virginia Limeworks on my house....my dad (contractor) calls and talks to them at least once a week because they have been experimenting on us a bit with their new products. I'll ask him for the contact info!

Re: Floor Finishes

We had wide pine(actually hemlock) flooring in our 1809 colonial here in NH, all sanded and varnished by a previous owner. These floors would have been painted, marbleized and or stenciled, but we were going to sell in a few years and most people are not a purist like me. So, after stripping all th...

Re: Floor Finishes

I'm not sure how easily old posts are revived, but I am finally ready to choose a floor finish....for real this time, haha. I thought I was ready earlier but then realized it would be wise to do the plaster work first! Anyways, revisiting these posts has been very very helpful, but I also wonder if ...

Re: What I did at my house today...

WildGeeseLn, there's a lot of snout business going on in that picture! What sort of hound is that? Sorry Neighmond, I hadn't been on in a while and I just saw this---- She is a Great Dane. But not a very "great" one in terms of size. She's only 109lbs, which is on the very small side. My ...

Re: 1830s Stone Farmhouse: Progress!

Awesome! Love the stone. How long was it abandoned? Or was it? Ober 51, it now looks like it was abandoned (because we took it back to its bones), but it was actually only a year since the former owner passed and I purchased it. However, it was VERY 1950s and she was a bit of a hoarder, so it reall...

Re: What I did at my house today...

This weekend I finally got to enjoy my yard a bit! I planted 6 bald cypress along my stream, 5 river birch, and a few redbuds. I also stuck a bench by the pond, and my sister made my family dinner on the new fire pit (SO much brush to burn!). 4.jpg 2.jpg I also helped my sister pick a new mantel for...

1830s Stone Farmhouse: Progress!

I know everyone is recommending living with the house a year or so before digging into it, but unfortunately with no electricity, pluming, water or heating there is no living in my house at all The real hurry, however, is that if it isn't "livable" by December, I won't have insurance anymo...

Re: What I did at my house today...

Things are moving so fast this week! I found someone to start working on my plaster--- he works with limeworks plaster, which is a great product for anyone looking for historic plaster materials, and he keeps thanking me for the opportunity to work on such a dream project on an old house. He even re...

Re: Stirrup Cup Farm C. 1830

Thanks for sharing those interior photos!! It looks very similar to how my house will be--combination of plaster, exposed stone, and exposed ceiling beams. Very beautiful and inspirational, since mine looks nothing like it yet, haha.
