A lot has happened since I last had time to log it, but the big news is that I am living in my house!!!! I thought I would pop back in and share some photos It looks like there is a photo limit, so I will do this in a couple posts, working from upstairs down.

Re: Antique Radiators?
Wow, thank you so much for the information! She has tried craigslist and a farmer's exchange, but given she can't move them herself, the salvage companies you are suggesting might be a good place to look. She was mostly just hoping to make a little money to put towards the house restoration, but I t...

Re: Antique Radiators?
Thanks for the reply 1918! I certainly don't want to scrap them either. She's been trying for over a year to find a home for them, but there doesn't seem to be many people interested. Do you have any suggestions where we might find people interested in them? We've tried many antique and restoration ...

Antique Radiators?
Hello all, Watching the progress on my house, my sister caught the bug and is now restoring her own 1900s farmhouse. She has several original radiators which are not going back into the house. Two are very ornate, Victorian looking, two others are art-deco style, and four are simple unadorned radiat...

Re: Happy Birthday WildGeeseLn!
Thanks everyone...sorry I just saw this months later. Things really started moving fast on the house and I just didn't have time for anything! On the plus side, I weaned myself completely off of facebook too

Re: Keeping weeds out of a brick walk
At the botanic garden we used to use a torch to flame the weeds in the brick walkway. I think at some point someone got a little too flame-happy and it was deemed unsafe for visitors. As lovesickest suggests, filling the gaps with something desirable, like thyme, is also an option, though it can be ...

Re: What I did at my house today...
I spent my first night in my house last night! I'm moved in almost 1 year to the day I purchased it. Certainly a lot of creaky noises in an old house, but an almost sound-proof stone house in the country with tree frogs and a stream makes for a great night's sleep Before/during/after photos coming s...

Re: getting paint off plaster
I had paint on most of my plaster walls...layers and layers, mostly lead. My plaster guy just put a new scratch and finish coat right over it (he put a layer of very thin plastic mesh first). I scraped off what paint I could first---it's a stone house, and I used traditional lime plaster because I w...
