Re: Unfinished beadboard ceiling

My entire 1907 cottage originally had beadboard walls and ceilings. Not the 3/4 common today but 1/4 thick 1 1/4 wide single strip beaded boards. I cannot imagine hand nailing those thousands of little strips!! Almost none remain, but we do have a newer edge and center bead ceiling on the front porc...

Re: Hullo from the "there be dragons here" area of MA

Every house I have purchased, we did the walk through the day of the closing. I don't think it would be out of bounds to ask politely to do another walk through. After all, it should only take 15 minutes to quickly give the house an inspection.

Re: oil and sand in containers for rust preventative

Re: Questions About Difficulty Levels

Even though I was the one who brought up the lift, I (is it fourth?) the suggestion to use pump jacks if you are comfortable with them. I own steel pump jacks (3 sets) that I use on my house and others. (Although, when I painted a few years ago, I borrowed some nice Alum-a-pole sets from a builder ...

Re: Questions About Difficulty Levels

Here's a link to a rental setup by Lynn. It is generic but gives you an idea of prices.

There may be a scissors lift designed for outdoors, but I've not seen one. They need a flat smooth surface to roll on, they don't have big wheels.

Re: Questions About Difficulty Levels

Aluminum ones have aluminum poles (can be up to 24' depending on what you buy) that need to be stored with the jacks and braces. Steel ones, you make your own poles with 2x4's....when you're done with the project, you can unscrew them and use them for something or toss them or burn them, all you sto...

Re: Questions About Difficulty Levels

You can probably rent staging that you could use to access the parts you need to prepare and paint. One thing about staging is, depending on which type you use, you have to either add/take away parts (pipe staging) as you change heights. Or you need to adjust (pump jacks) as you change height. Pipe ...
