Re: Mosquitoes...

We have a wetlands retention area in back of our house, part of the ten acre church property, as well as pond like muck that feeds it on one side. Those trees to the left in my avatar is that area. Somewhat of a dump site in the past as I see a few tires which is a mosquito favorite. Well that side ...

Re: Has anyone had to "rough it"?

An old house in the woods like yours, to me is a paradise no matter how much roughing it takes.

Re: Old House Archaeology

Nice finds! I found a few marbles, an older bottle, and a key plate from one of the original doors. I am curious about the 4 x 6 structure under my kitchen, could be the foundation of the original kitchen. Shows up as taxable on the house BAS. Things here are a little murky before 1927.

Re: Yard guests

Put the yardstick on a counter with the bait on one end. Balance it so that when the critter gets to the bait it all falls into the bucket. Listen for sound of falling stuff into bucket. I heard it while watching TV ten feet away. Years ago in a previous house with attached garage, we had some unwa...

Re: Yard guests

I have a wabbit in my yard, I use to see it on the lot next door, now displaced because of construction I guess. A simple mouse/rat trap: 1 deep bucket or trash can 1 yard stick, or metal strip 1 piece of cheese or other favorite Put the yardstick on a counter with the bait on one end. Balance it so...

Re: Yard guests

I got the kitchen sugar ant thing under control using those plastic ant thingies. Here is another yard guest story: I had just set up one of those free standing pools for the kids in our back yard, in Lauderdale, which was dominated by a huge silk oak tree. The pool is 4 foot high and 12 feet across...

Re: Yard guests

I remember in my teens when we were "experimenting" with LSD and thought it was snowing.. but couldn't figure out how it could snow since it was warm out and summertime. after staring at the snow for what seemed like a long time I finally concluded that it was the bugs being lit up by a n...

Re: Yard guests

Fireflies are a beetle family insect. I must share this. One time I was at a party sitting in a dark corner with a gal, when suddenly we saw what looked like a tiny car with two headlights "driving" towards us along the baseboard. As we got closer to look, suddenly this car put on its high...

I haven't seen a sunset in almost two weeks. Its been raining here and will continue to next week. So if I want to see a sunset, I can always look at that pic.

Re: Yard guests

There was a coyote on our front lawn at 6 am a few days ago. I also have a mockingbird nest in the hedges and they are buzzing the cats all day long. I am on outside lamp termite watch at night. Ahh...spring....
