Re: How old is my house?

Our Philly rowhouse was built in 1946. In researching this current house, I compared notes and looked up when the rowhouse was built, Philly sez 1970. Impossible, my dad bought that house brand new coming home from WWII. I grew up in that house. 1970 is when that house was sold and we packed up for ...

Re: How much of a lean is okay?

See my signature? True about building methods back in the day, sober or not. My house had been walking down our sloped street over the years, we bolstered the one side, I still have one of the original (leaning) brick piers under what use to be the other half of the porch, now an expanded bedroom, s...

Re: Your two cents on fences: picket or metal?

That is a great house! My recent idea on fencing: A mix. Lower pickets, and every several feet, taller, with decorative trellis, mixed with a few plants and hedges, maybe even climbing vines. This breaking up prevents the walled in look, and you can have privacy where you need it. I am currently des...

...and then I plan to knock one of those guys out of office and run myself. I truly believe that's what more of us are going to have to do to save our communities--get elected and jump in the ring for a year or two to try to drum up the interest in preservation. That is quite a story Lady. I am so ...

That would explain the problem I was having. I thought maybe I didn't mount my plastic one high enough.

Re: Does Corsetiére do Manual Labor? What do you guys think?

I use a rake.
I hate noise.
Therefore I want to dump cable TV.
I will be in the market for an antenna.
Thanks to Corsetière, I discover my rake can be used as an antenna!
Thanks!
Film at 11.

Re: Hi again.

Nicolas, nice to see you back; I was feeling a little stranded in the southeast US. I can relate to the importance of neighbors surrounding you; other than those whose houses are rural and secluded, I think most of us can. Check out Ilex vomitoria 'Pendula' for potential as a screen: native, grows ...

Re: Hi again.

Hiya Mr. Gothichome. Good to hear from you. Padre has a nice view of my driveway and associated nonsense ten feet from his bedroom window. What was he thinking? I don't know why such a huge house, they could have kept it narrow and longer and had more lot line on that side. He said they are going to...

Hi again.

Took a long break from blogs and boards. <----See that avatar pic? With the woods beyond? There is now a huge home on that lot, a catholic church rectory. I call it the Berlin wall with windows. Finally finished, I saw yesterday the architect, the pastor and a couple others shaking hands and saying ...

Re: Some attic finds...more to come when I have time to take pictures!

I am a big fan of Antiques Road show. That table reminds me of something that was found in an attic by new homeowners of an old house like yours. Turns out it was a Federalist table that was worth at auction a quarter of a million dollars, and they showed the auction and the price went a little high...
