Re: From Old House to Old House
Well, as it turned out, we found a different old house that we loved even more. It’s a later build date and doesn’t have the same fancy details as the first one, but we love it. The owners accepted our offer last night! https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/609504338728976394/728784898407661588/ima...

Re: From Old House to Old House
Okay, it’s interesting you say that, because I had my own suspicions that the house may have been built earlier, and then hodgepodged together through the years. One of the things that made me wonder is another house for sale in the same town. It’s listed as being built in 1853, which I completely b...

Re: From Old House to Old House
The new (old) house seems to have most of its original woodwork in place, and unpainted, to boot. The floors are all hidden under carpeting right now, but I feel positive we’ll find wood that matches the hallway when we pull it up. The room that’s seen the biggest alteration is the kitchen. And ther...

Re: From Old House to Old House
Thanks, Phil! It was a labor of love, that’s for sure, but it never has felt like a “forever home.” Hopefully another family will move in and love it. Looking forward, here’s the house we have our eye on: https://photos.zillowstatic.com/uncropped_scaled_within_1536_1152/ISfo3f1v4q752p1000000000.jpg ...

From Old House to Old House
Hi, everyone! It’s been quite a while since I was active in the forums, but here I am! We bought our 1916 bungalow in 2016, and have done extensive work to bring her back to life. Last summer (thanks to a massive hailstorm), we were finally able to remove the old aluminum siding and restore the orig...

Re: Old House Air Conditioning
I'm watching your project with interest! We are looking into mini splits within the next few years. Are you at all trying to cool your upstairs?

Porch Restoration Q's
Our 1916 bungalow is in need of some major porch repairs due to some rotten support beams underneath. We'll be tackling the project of replacing the rotting boards (as well as the tongue and groove, which is also in rough shape) next month with the help of my father in law, who has lots of experienc...

Re: 1916 Bungalow
We ended up painting it an almost identical shade of red.
I keep big glass jars of flour, sugar, etc. on it with my kitchenaid stand mixer. Looks great! Or, it did, until my husband left a wet glass on it and took off a layer of paint... Touch-ups needed!

Re: 1916 Bungalow
Hi, guys! Long time no see. I think I got busy with life and completely forgot to update this thread! I never even shared any "after" photos! IMG_0858.JPG IMG_0857.JPG IMG_0856.JPG IMG_0855.JPG IMG_0854.JPG This last photo is of the former "ninja turtle" room. Can you believe it?...

Re: 1916 Bungalow
It doesn't appear to be a very fine quality wood. It has very old paint on it, so my guess is that it was intended to be painted.
