Blop and epoxy
I want to use blop on my window sashes but I have spots here and there that need repair. The instructions on the epoxy says don't use turpentine based coatings so I'm wondering if epoxy is compatible with blop. If I treat with blop and wipe off the excess I could let it dry for a couple of weeks if ...

Happy 4th of July
Spent most the day working on window restoration. Scraping 4 layers of old paint, sanding, etc. Not much fun but it did get me out of reach from Pqtex's bothersome cats for a while and there is some satisfaction in making progress. After that I treated myself to a few minutes of hobby work. Removing...

steam box works great
Got my steam box up and running for the first of many sessions. Hooked it up to a Jiffy J-4000 steamer. Steamed two sashes for 35 minutes. It was amazingly easy to remove the old putty without breaking the wavy glass panes. One of them only had one point for the entire pane. The other one had about ...

self leveling cement/epoxy?
I'm using precast column bases and there is a slight pitch on our concrete porch. Photo isn't so good but hopefully you can see where I'm going with this. There isn't much gap between the back of the base and the front of the base in order to make it level. The manufacturer of the base suggests usin...

update on turpentine
Needed turpentine for mixing blop. I checked locally and no one had the real thing so I ordered Sunnyside brand from Amazon. Hearing that it might take a long time for Amazon to ship, Jill (pqtex) ordered from American Rope and Tar. We got both of them within a few days of each other so I conducted ...

Super Spec DTM
I'm restoring old wood windows. I've seen Benjamin Moore Super Spec DTM paint recommended for exteriors.
Looking at the Benjamin Moore web site and found several Super Spec listings.
Is this the Super Spec DTM to use?

turpentine
Facing the blopentine stage in window restoration. Need to make up a batch.
Found Sunnyside brand pure gum spirits turpentine on Amazon. Does anyone know if that is the real stuff?

old house restoration research
Apparently watching someone researching old window restoration is extremely boring.
Bet she'd wake up quick if I had some food in here to mooch.

Re: steamer for steam box
Thank you for the replies. I do like to double check on this project stuff before I throw myself into it.
Phil, that is a cool video. That guy has a great shop with plenty of room to work and I like the way he repurposes things like those fuel containers to fit a new job.
