Re: Roller Shades ARRRGH!

I hear you! When I first contemplated moving to my 1913 family homestead in 2005, I wondered what to do about the window coverings. My grandmother had 2" aluminum blinds installed in all of the windows (about 26 of them) when she had a 1950's remodel done. They were all functional and perfectly fit ...

Re: Roller Shades ARRRGH!

I've been trying to catch up on everyone's progress and hoping for inspiration for my house. I was delighted to see this thread on roller shades, but I can't access a website for Handwerk. It looks like the blog is gone. Did you get your shades? I'd love to see photos! Thanks!

Re: Are Forums a dying thing?

I'm kind of late to this party, but I'm back now! As a regular poster on Old House Web and Wavy Glass, I was in the "Honeymoon" phase of my old house. I was happy to see all the old posts from Wavy Glass preserved here. I participated some once we moved here, but my posts were less frequent. My faul...

Re: Happy Free Items

Regarding the horsehair mattress... Decades ago, we had a local mattress company that not only made mattresses, but they remade, recovered, and cleaned old ones as well. My family had a couple of mattresses rebuilt from that local company. It's quite possible the horsehair mattress has received a fa...

Re: Need to replace shed roof...should it match the house?

Thank you all! We do need to totally replace the roof. The photos are not current and the roof sustained some minor damage from falling limbs. Unfortunately, we have lost both of the trees to the right of The Little House. I will continue to look for some ideas. I had suggested replacing the roof to...

Need to replace shed roof...should it match the house?

Hi everyone! It's been a while since I've been here, but I lurk every now and then. We haven't had time or money to work on our 1913 family homestead in a while, but we're about to get busy on it again. The little white house in the back is really just a shed, but it has always been called "the...

Re: Texas members - Hurricane Harvey

I was checking in to check on Sashguy after I read that the Heights had suffered a lot of flooding, and glad to see that he's okay, too...and still has a sense of humor! I felt very safe in my 1913 house, and yes, even though Beaumont was pummeled by rain and we had massive flooding, my house was ne...

Re: Insurance shenanigans

Our agent took photos of our house, but there were no requests for any changes. The prior agency also came by and took photos. A friend, who was formerly an insurance agency stated that it was routine for them to annually drive around and check the property of their insureds and let them know of thi...

Re: Spammers !!! New wavyglass warning

Thanks. I remember you trying to contact him about helping with the site and that he was non-responsive. He went to so much trouble to set up WavyGlass and seemed to have such good intentions. I just couldn't help but wonder if there was something major going on behind the scenes with him, but appar...

Re: Setbacks...

Funny thing...sometime in May, we were driving around aimlessly (we were sort of on vacation) and we went through this small town in northeast Texas. As we cruised the town square looking for a lunch spot, I looked up and saw the cupola...and (light bulb) thought to myself...Clarksville? We're in Cl...
