Re: fall picture

Here's Mt. Cabot in the northern White Mountains from our front lawn last year. We feel pretty lucky to have a nice old house in a great setting.

Re: What I did at my house today...

forever impressed by folks here who can look at an old house item and see the beauty beneath where others see something destined for the dump....that's a lot of work...and, glamorous? yes! ...jade Isn't the way old house people are anyway? The gift of being able to look at an issue and see the rose...

Re: What I did at my house today...

One of my good friends that got me into house restoration 30 years ago, started his trek when he was 5 years old with his dad. That would have been in the late 1940's and he is still loving old homes and antiques. He chuckles when I call him my old house mentor.

Good luck with your new home and work shop, I know the effort it takes to move and get a business going again. We have a good view of Mt. Cabot, one of the 48, 4000 footers. This is a good time of year with foliage coming soon to complete the last two on your list.

New to this forum. So here's a bit of an introduction

My wife and I have owned several old houses over the years. Last year we moved into northern NH to be in the White Mountains year round. Our house here is a bit of a long story, but it started out as a two story Victorian with two towers. The son of the owner a local lawyer turned builder decided to...

Re: Greetings from the Adirondacks

My wife and I were married in Saranac Lake in 1998, we go back often for hiking and canoeing. I'm a bit of a researcher and typed in the name Charles Gale Taxidermist and found this newspaper article about his wife Alice's passing. http://nyshistoricnewspapers.org/lccn/s ... d-1/seq-1/

Re: Worst thing non-old house lovers have said to you.

11 years ago after buying the house we're in now, my parents were visited for a few days. My mother walks in the door for the first time, peers around turns to me and says "good luck". The place is now restored, we are selling it today to a neighbor for twice what we paid for it. Friday we...
